Since the stock headgasket let go, should i put another one?

Since my other thread got deleted, i blew the passenger side head gasket, well atleast where the #4 cylinder is. So my question w/ my motor 11-1cr and gonna be sprayed, should i put another stock gasket in, or something different?

put on a set of cometic gaskets. Not the cheapest, but you wont have to worry about blowin them. Thats what i run.

stock HGs are fine. LT1s have 17 head bolts per side. if you blew it something was really wrong. im guessing either detonation or the motor had dexcool in it.

Need to use the same gakets on both sides. I've had success with the FelPro 1074s on NA builds. Can't speak for anything else.

My stockers lasted ~110k, so that says something too .

it eats the head gaskets over time. and once it does, when it gets into the oiling system it eats the surface off the bearings.

^do you have info to prove that, b/c ive never run anything but dexcool in the car and this is the first problem ive had... these are 1074's in case anyone is wondering, and was running n/a. Seems like it just tore where the #4 cylinder is....only gonna find out when i get it open though.

What he says is true, the dexcool eats gaskets...you need to use new TTY bolts if you still have those in.

there is a class action lawsuit against the makers of dexcool for this very thing. appearantly a few people think its a problem.

Cometic has those new Phuzion gaskets. Good stuff, but you have to have the right surface prep. Other than that, you've had some good suggestions on this thread.

i would put 2 on it. if it blew one the other isnt far behind. at least in the 96-97 lt1 motors ive seen that had dexcool in them.

From what I've read the cosmetic gaskets need a pretty fresh surface to seal properly.

Have you looked into the Mr. Gasket 5716 gaskets? That's what Lloyd recommended I run with my setup (may be different for your 383). It's a .026 gasket so it will bump your compression up some more. Not sure what your current quench is at right now.

I believe the ARP head bolts are reusable, not positive though.
