Cool Since I'm doing head gasket I'll go with 1.6 RR, but have valve cover ?

Going with GM products and a Fel Pro head gasket set.

Part # 12497978 valve cover is nice polished aluminum 1/4" taller than stock with a bowtie and chevrolet on it. Listed for use in 86 or up gen 1 and 2 engines with center hold down design.

Anyone use this; if so, is fitment OK or is modification for alternator and oil baffles for 1.6 rr required?

TIA

i think you may have issues with the alternator bracket. i think one guy bashed it in with a hammer till it fit. you should be fine with the rockers if its a taller valve cover.

u will more than likely have to tap the end of the pass side headers a little (just dent it in) to get it to clear the altenator bracket. u wont be able to see where u hit it, so did it as much as u need to make it fit

Going to replace header gaskets at same time so headers will be off. I didn't think header clearance would be an issue with the valve covers I selected.

Is anyone using this part number; or, better yet, is there a set of nicer GM or GMPP valve cover that will fit where there are no clearance issues inside or out. It appears the taller valve covers with baffles/oil drippers (12363970 12341671 and 12371208) for pre 1986 would work with no modification using an adapter for flange mount to center bolt (24502540).

I have searched this site and the net and really can't tell what will work with my set up as far as part numbers go.

I know I need taller for the newer 1.6 RR. I know I might have to modify baffles. I know I might have to modify alternator bracket. I just don't know on what valve cover part number

Am I better off just modifying the stockers and just calling it a day forgetting about what would basically be an appearance mod or is there a taller set of valve covers out there which will enhance performance, ie. internal oiling and not need modification?

once again, TIA

Cool

OK it's 4th and long so, I'm gonna punt.

GMPP composite LT1/LT4 #12552321(L) and #12552322(R) with studs #10108674 and bolts #10108675 seems to be the easy way out.

Please block the punt if I am incorrect here.
