Simple Question....

Yes another "oil pressure question"....
1995 Z28 pretty fresh motor, about 10,000 miles...

Cold Idle= roughly 60 pounds
Warm Idle= 25 pounds
Driving 55-60mph= 40 pounds
Under EMERGENCY braking, once stopped= nearly 0-5 pounds, but only for a second, then it returns to 20 pounds

The last one is the one that concerns me.... is that normal?????
Is it cause the pickup is towards the back of the pan, and all the oil sloshes forward?????

stock oil pan or aftermarket?

if stock, is the stock windage tray there?

if aftermarket, does it have baffles?

Bought the car used in March... previous owner advised it was a "stock" rebuild..... Oil pan appears stock from outside, unsure of internals of oil pan.... do stock pans have a "windage tray"????

there is a windage tray in stock lt1 engines that mounts to the cap bolts. but im not sure how not having that would cause a loss in pressure under extreme braking. i would think there's something up with the baffle in the pan letting all of the oil out the sump.

The words "stock rebuild" would be a red flag for me. If you are having weird oil pressure issues, it would be worth it to further investigate the problem, even if it means pulling the pan.

Well when I say stock rebuild I basically mean a new crank and bearings.... brobably cause the car had low oil pressure like my 96 currently does..... i know thats normal with higher mileage LT1s, but this fluctuation in pressure under hard "emergency" braking is what has me bugged out.... If the pickup fell off, would it even be getting oil, or would the preesure just be at 0... cause the car has great oil pressure ALL the time, with the exception of the "emergency" braking..... Think Im gonna go park it on a steep hill facing downward and see if the oil pressure changes, that should be a sufficient recreation, dont you think?????

the pickup tube fell off the oil pump. remove pan and weld on the tube.

Ok... looks like the pan is comming off.... anyone have any advice for getting the pan off easier....? My 96 has a tubular K-member, so its pretty easy, but her 95 (of course the one with the problem) has the stock "hunk" of Kmember....

unbolt the mounts, lift engine up with a cherry picker or similar, unbolt k-member

it might drop farther(if needed) by unbolting the swaybar from the body(in front of the k-member) and unbolting the shocks from the lower control arm

You can also eyeball into the pan through the drain plug to see if there's anything obvious. Can also poke a coat hanger around to see if the p/u is at the bottom of the pan.

Ok... putting the car up on the lift tomorrow, but I wanted to clarify something... (from top to bottom) isnt it motor, pump, p/u tube. then sump???? If so...then if the tube fell off, wouldnt the sump have fallen off as well???? and there would be no Oil Pressure....

if the pick up tube fell off the pump the oil pressure would rise with rpm to a point...say 3000rpms,10psi per 1000rpms..then it would drop of fast.

I would double check the oil level before I went in a pulled the pan

This is how it acts... does that sound like what your talking about???? Trust me, I dont wanna pull the pan if I dont have to.... Last I checked Oil level was good.
