Sigh...LT1 Valve Cover options....

I've been looking for options on LT1 valve covers....the selections are very narrow to say the least. I'm just not pleased with the clearance of the CC 1.6 Pro Mags with the stock covers. I've completely gutted the drivers side stock cover, but it appears as you torque the cover...the top of the cover collapses.....which makes perfect sense.....the baffling in the stock covers is designed to transfer the bolt torque to the sides of the cover to allow it clamp the gasket properly.

I'm now looking at these.......

I'm almost resigned to modding the alternator/alternator bracket to make them work....however the inside baffling has me concerned.

Does anybody have any pictures of what these look like inside?

I did look at the Cantons....but I'm not a fan of the welded aluminum look.

I wish to goodness the LT4 composites were not discontinued.

It's not necessary to gut the covers. All you need to do is take a pair of pliers or vice grips and bend the lip of the longer part of the cross brace striaight up so the entire brace is straight instead of having the "L" shape. That is the only part that comes into contact with those rockers.

^any pics as to what your talking about. IM getting ready to install 1.6rr's and am looking at valve covers or modifying my stocks

Dude you don't "TORQUE THE COVER" valve covers are maybe 10 lbs at the most i modified my valve covers as shown below and my comp pro mags clear fine and seal perfectly.

I was torquing to 106 lb-in. You can still see the cover flex. My drivers cover has none of that webbing now. I have modded the passenger side to look like above....and it seems to not be touching anything.....however I still would like an option with the room of the LT4 covers.

I just don't want to throw money to the covers without seeing the under side.

When did GM discontinue the composite valve covers?
Those are one of the very few covers that fit over shaft rockers. I'm bummed now.

The Proforms that you show have no bracing inside (to speak of). They fit over shaft rockers and Promagnum rockers but they do have a removable oil baffle separator that you will probably have to remove. I don't know how you will get your alternator to fit though.

I run those Proforms, nice pieces. Just leave the baffles out. You do have to grind a small spot on back of the alt. Maybe the size of a nickel, takes all of 10 minutes. There is a post on one of the sites somewhere with pics but it is
very simple. They have gone up $$, I paid 100 $ when I got mine!

I may have missed something here

The covers in the original thread say they do not fit LT1 or LS engines.

why does the drivers side have no webing the section i cut is the only portion that has to be cut to clear the rocker body i have this on my car right now and it clears fine. You'll have no worries if you do your covers like this I promise.

I hacked it out! I've got a used stock set on the way. I didn't f-up the passengers side.....but from memory(lol, bad memory) I cut too much webbing out of the drivers...... Should have checked the old threads first. I'll give the stockers a try for now, but I may still order the Proforms.
