Re: Side exhaust and dumping directly ONTO the tires

Well my old caprice would idle for a half hour, then when i revved it i would get enough water to fill a good size water bottle up! AFter 30-45 minutes the exaust would start sounding like a sinking ship, gurble gurbl gurble from all the water! Guess those muffler didnt have water holes!

Man, some very smart and respected people here have given you valid reasons why its a bad idea, but if you insist...........

How is it nascar series cars can get away with exhaust dumping right before the tire ?

They're not particularly worried about pitting a wheel over the course of one race, and they never run in sub-zero weather. Other aspects of an early exit exhaust are advantageous such as system weight. It's just that the negatives outweigh the positives for OEM considerations.

i like to try new things. SDAKOVIC does it and says it's fine. As Shannon said NASCAR dumps before the rear wheel too. I'm just looking to discover new things. I want my car to be unique.

Would there be any benifts to have TWO X pipes? I was thinking about doing that with side exits, but not dumping it on the tires. I was thinking it might sound pretty awsome. Doesnt anyone know?

I never drive in any weather under 55 degrees and i'm thinking brake dust will do more damage than exhaust fumes venting into open air.

Just think of all the air that goes by your tires at 65 M.P.H. and I would think that the tires would never heat up. I do have a laser temp. gun and when the weather warms up around here I will take my car out of storage and check to see exactly what,if any temp. the tires take, and I will let everyone know.

Yeah I just don't think there are going to be as many problems unless you dumping 2" directly in front of the rear tires. When your moving, the air is dissipating the hot air so quickly and when your sitting, the exhaust velocity is quite low at that point in the exhaust.

I'm doing side exists on mine. No other street car i've ever seen will have this setup. Close, but not exact

What happens when your just cruisen, and water builds up in your exaust. Then you stop at a red light and some ricer starts throwing revs at you. You go to take off but spin cause you just dumped water under your tires!]

Just another thing to consider!

Re: Side exhaust and dumping directly ONTO the tires

So you're saying to actually point the exhaust at your tires? I wouldn't think that would be a very good idea. If you're considering a setup similar to the Viper, where it turns ******d in front of the wheel, I see no problems with that.

And I would definitely suggest an X pipe or H pipe or some other sort of equalizer, earlier Vipers had a dual system with no connections between, so what you heard from the side was 5 cylinders, which for some reason people related to the sound of a UPS truck.

Another thing to consider is that exhaust gases (dangerous fumes & heat) will now be closer to you and your passengers.

The NASCAR vehicle is shaped to create a low pressure area when the vehicle is moving right where the exhaust dumps out. Note that the pipes are flat: about 1-1/2 inches high and maybe 15 inches long with the edge pretty much parallel to the car. They are not pointed at the tire tread surface. There is also enough gas velocity (when they are producing power) to blow the exhaust a llittle bit away from the edge of the car. Not at all what our thread-starter suggested.
