Re: Sick motor!!!!!
Black smoke is indicative of burning too much fuel. Could be a few reasons for that. Maybe a hole in the FPR diaphragm and fuel is leaking into the intake. Check the vac line on the regulator to see if it's wet. Could be a leaky injector. Could have a cylinder not firing. That's bad and could damage the cylinder. Check for that by using an infrared thermometer on the exhaust manifold. Or pull 1 plug wire at a time and see what happens to the engine. Or use a spray bottle of water. Also smell the oil on the dipstick and see if it smells like gas. Be sure to find out if you have a dead cylinder right away.
As far as Seafoam goes, it is an amazing product. It cleans the carbon out of our small engines in short order. HOWEVER, noone has said it won't harm O2's or catalytic convertors. Notice this page from Seafoam DOES NOT mention automobiles with gas engines????? http://www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUpTech.htm
I don't believe it is safe for the emissions systems on cars.
My personal feeling is, you could use it as often as you like if you remove the O2's and disconnect the cat(s). Therefore, you could only run it through the intake and not put it in the fuel. But I may be wrong.
Oh yeah, one more thing. Just attended a class put on by Standard auto parts. That's the MFR of sensors in the little blue box that makes several other brands of parts that are relabled. Bosch is one of them. The guru there told us 2 stupid things that everyone does (myself included) is put a K&N type filter on and remove the screen in the MAF. The screen cuts down on air turbulence so the MAF can more accurately measure the air stream and the oil from the cotton filter contaminates the MAF quite easily.
You may want to clean your MAF with brake cleaner when it's cooled off and the engine is off.
