Should my IAC be THIS dirty? *Pics*

Finally got it out..had to dremel and drill the friggin hex-stripping bolt things. I think this is my original IAC(95 with 67k miles)...

Long story short, when the car is in gear after it is warmed up...if I stop at a stop light...after about 10 seconds the RPMS and Voltage gauge drops and gets kinda eratic. New opti, O2's, jes fixed intake manifold leak, new battery and alternator.

Look like I need a new IAC?

I had a similar problem with a pickup that I had. It used a solenoid for idle and not a motor. It was sticking closed too far and ocassionally causing the engine to die at idle. When the idle got low, of course the voltage would get low also.

It won't hurt to clean yours and try it again. After cleaning the shaft and pintle, I like to gently pull the pintle out, put lapping compound on it and lapp it into the seat just like valves. Of course you have to remove the lapping compound when you're done.

Looks about the same as mine with 62k.. I replaced it with a new one and it didn't change anything.. I probably could have just cleaned the original and stuck it back on.

Just an idea with the rough idle.. When I installed the new one, I had to drive it a little while so the computer could adjust it to the correct position.. Maybe you moved it slightly when you cleaned it and it just needs a little time to readjust itself... Also, did you clean the carbon out of the throttle body too?

Yeah it just needs some time. It's a good idea while you're there, to remove and clean the TB and replace the gasket. You might want to clean the EGR too. If you think the IAC was bad, wait till you see the EGR. Replace the gasket too.

I did the same thing yesterday. My IAC looked the same. Cleaned up pretty well with SeaFoam and GENTLE cleaning with an old toothbrush. Clean out your TB and replace the gasket as well. It helped my car a bit (same problems as you described). Also, while the TB is off check any manifold bolts you can reach for tightness and check for nasty vacuum lines as well.

Well my EGR is bypassed, so dont have to worry about that. And I jes got done with the intake manifold leak fix, so yea the TB is all cleaned up. I drove the car some more today, and its running worse...I am getting Code 44 - Bank 1 (left) O2 sensor, lean...which doesnt make sense since I jes put in a new left O2 like 2 months ago, and a new right one the other day(both GM brand new)...

The scanmaster is saying the left bank is messed up on everything...the injectors, the Lean is way off...im guessing thats NOT IAC related right?

What was the IAC counts when idling? And one other thing, do you have an infrared thermometer? Check to see if you have a dead cylinder on the side in question. If you have to pull an injector clip or plug wire. I like the thermometer, it keeps hands away from hot things.
