Should I go 4 bolt mains with this set up?
Should I go 4 bolt mains with this set up?
I am trying to determine if I the peace of mind is going to be worth the $500 extra ($200 for the caps and $300 for machining) for 4 bolt slayed caps or not. My set up consists of a Scat forged crank, 6" h-beam rods and JE pistons. 306 cam, ported heads and n2o. I do not planning on spinning it much over 6k rpm and will keeping the juice at a 150 shot. This could make or break my budget. If I should diffently have them then I don't mind waiting a little longer to be able to afford it, but if it will be overkill I do not want to waste to the $$. Just wanting to go get some opinions on this.
If you're not wanting to spin much over 6k then you picked the wrong cam. Do some searches, most people spin the CC306 > 6500, some spin it to 7k. If your gonna stick with the 306 go for the 4-bolt mains.

The powerband on the 306 tops out at about 6k from what I've seen. Of course the shift points will always be alittle above the peak. I really do not see taking it above 6500 since valve float really comes in there. Anyone with the 306 and Comp R's feel free to chime here and give your experiences.

Your nuts dude... The 306 is way bigger than my hot-cam and it didn't peak until 6200 on the dyno. Go do a few searches on the 306's powerband and you'll see.

"I think you need to rethink your setup. Why not a nitrous oriented cam (looking at your name)?"
I have heard the 306 is a good nitrous cam. Maybe I wrong here to.
