I'm fairly certain you can just throw the electric water pump in there. I remember the pump being a solid housing. Don't quote me on that though.

I went with the painless wiring kit. It comes with a circuit breaker and relay setup. Install was fairly easy. I didn't follow the wiring diagram painless provided and hooked it up so it would go on whenever the computer is telling the fuel pump to turn on. I went a little crazy and crimped as well as soldered all connections just for the extra security. It's been installed for about 1k miles now, no problems so far (knock on wood).

if you go with an electric pump, it will come with a freeze plug to put in the backside of the waterpump where the bearing/shaft used to go and that elinates the possibility of any water coming out of the weep hole on the bottom of the water pump housing.
