Question Should I bother getting a rear end stud girdle?

This spring I will have motive 4.10 gears installed in my factory 10 bolt. I was thinking of getting a rear end stud girdle (T/A, MAC etc.) installed at the same time. My question is though, should I bother? I might take my car to the strip once or twice this year but most miles will be on the street and it won't be wearing slicks at all. My mods are in the sig.

Thanks,
Tyler

I got an entire rear end with fresh 3.73's along with an installed T/A girdle with stud kit for $300. I haven't been to the track yet so I don't know if it actually benefits to support the rear during launch, but I assume that replacing the stock studs and cover with the T/A girdle and stud kit would help...

I personally like mine...a little extra peace of mind...

Don't know about girdles, because it seems like holding something together that is broken inside serves little purpose.

Someone explain how the girdle works to strenghten the 10 bolt.

I would, however, recommend going with solid shims to replace the cush sleeve system. Seems that once the correct solid shim is installed that it helps prevent displacment of the pinion postion thus maintaining the maximum strength.

I may be wrong.

I ordered the AAM alum cover as an RPO on my SS. It is a very functional cover for improved oiling of the diff and for cooling, but it is not designed as a stud girdle.

Ratech makes solid shims. You should be able to order them along with your rear kit, but maybe you can get them separately from Summit, Thunderracing, etal.

I believe I ordered mine separately from my 4.10s and provided my installer with the shims along with the 410s and told them to install them.

You might want to confirm with your installer to make sure they are familiar with using the solid shims.

I recall asking one installer, and he didn't quite know what I was talking about.JMHO
