Post Shortys v/s mid length v/s longtubes.

Well I'm in the market for buying a set of headers. Let me start of by saying I did do a search on this topic but mostly found post about different brands of headers instead of different styles of headers. Here is my question. What design will show the most HP and TQ gains, how big of a difference is the gains between the designs? I can get mid length headers with a Y pipe cheaper then long tubes by themselves, whats the best bang for the buck? Opinions please.. Thanks guys, Joe...

LT's > Mid's > Shorty's

Do you have emissions? If not order a set of Hooker's and OR Y. You won't regret it

one of if not the oldest message board argurments of all time. I run mids with a custom 3" y-pipe, I like it but it dosent have the sound of long tubes, the argurment goes on and on but I think the majority will tell you go long tubes.

First decision is do you need to pass a smog test? If yes, long tubes relocate the cat and therefore won't pass the visual test. If smog is not an issue, the biggest gains are with long tubes. Gains depend on your mods; the higher the HP, the more gain you will see. On a near stock engine you may loose some low end torque with the long tubes. Long tubes also create ground clearance problems. Midlengths are a good choice as they don't present a ground clearance issue and provide good HP gains; SLP sells a smog legal set of midlengths. Shorties come smog legal and will provide a gain for mild to medium HP engines.

I just put on a set of Jet Hot brand LT's and it definatly has a sweet sound, Ive never heard anything sound quite like it, i got a 2 1/2 Y pipe made and i have a hooker aero chamber muffler. Go with long tubes.

If you have no emissions, then I guess the sky is the limit for you. And if you shop around, you can get a pair of coated long tubes and y-pipe together for 550.00 That is what I paid for my Pacesetter set.
