ok,youre talking about size of primaries as if thats the actual length of the tube. Yeah bigger primaries lose Tq. but thats the case with both longtubes and shorties. Most shorties and longies are available in 1 5/8" and 1 3/4" primaries. 1 5/8 will suit most cars without a problem, but as ive said before, longer tubes are better.

With any luck, I'll be bringing my car back out on the 1st of this upcoming April. I have Edelbrock shorties right now but I've also got a pair of Jet Hot LT's I picked up last month. (I'm STILL waiting for my y-pipe )

I was the one that stated the thread "Are LT's worth the extra $$ over shorties..."

When I bring her out again in the next couple weeks, I'll dyno with the shorties.

I'll install the Jet Hot LT's and dyno once again to (hopefully) put an end to this whole debate. (I'm real curious to find out the results myself )

Again, all this depends on when I finally get my Jet Hot YPIPE

Stay tuned....

Those were the single CAT Edelbrocks right? Do they have 1 5/8" primaries? What size is the Y-pipe that came with them?

I'm looking forward to the results also, to answer this question better for the LT1.

I went longtubes and im glad I did. My cousin has a 96 Z28. When we were both stock we would run damn near side by side. We always like getting mods and comparing by racing each other be it at the track or street. He has the same exact mods i do but is using mac shorty headers. I pull him by about 2 cars in the 1/4 mile. And by about the same 2 cars from a 40mph roll. Were about even from stop to 60mph but after that he says i pull him like LS1's do. If you want some extra top end get longtubes. If you wanna get pulled by LS1's get shorties. Shorties are somewhat cheaper in price so the choice is yours. If you wanna spend a little more on Longtubes you will be rewarded by a better top-end. If you wanna keep all your emissions hookups get shorties. This has been discussed over and over with the same results. Be it a bone stock car or a highly modded one, longtubes make more power. Oh btw my cousin traps 104mph with his shorties. Not too shabby. But i like my near 108mph better

I live in Ca. Shorties are the only header I can use.... Macs are not smog legal, you can check their web site if you don't believe me. Yes, I know they have the hook-ups, but they don't have the needed carb #. Most of the guy are trying to pass them off as eddies.. As for the long tube, They are awesome for big power gains with out a dought. It is the age old problem again, Not smog legal in CA....So, it depends on your application. For me, SLP shorties is my final choise.
