shoebox; opti test ?

Bugging ya with another opti ?. I'm using your opti test artical and my ? is are the wires the same on a 96? Mine are in alpha. order on the icm connector harness. A is pink; b is white; c is black; d is green. The first test I got right at 12 volts on both the A and D terminals with the key on. On the second one, while cranking,I tested the B terminal, It fluctuated; 1.3,1.8,1.4,2.1 etc. On the connector A is on the left side of the ICM, and D being the far right one. If I followed your test right that tells me its the coil or ICM right?? I still cant get any spark Hope I explained it good enough, thanks in advance Shoe

Coil or ICM, sound like it could be. Your test seems to prove power and firing signals are getting there.

Shoebox, damn car still wont start!! I replaced coil (autozone coil) and still wont fire up. It cranks, and when u stop cranking u can hear 3 or 4 pops out the exhaust. I ran your test again and I'm getting 12v's on the A and D term. And getting around 2 volts on the second part of the test while cranking. They couldnt test the ICM, could that be the prob. I pulled v/c and rockers are moving so the chain is still on. When the car quit I had revved it to bout 4-45 k, idled down and died, tried to start and it popped out the exhaust REALLY LOUD bout 2 or three times blew my slip fit temp. I-pipe off!! Is there a way to test the ICM? I dont wanna keep buying stuff that I dont have to!! Thanks in advance Shoe, Chris

I don't have a test for the ICM. I also suppose it is possible that the signals you are getting from the pcm on "B" might not be strong enough. I have not had an opportunity to observe them with a meter, myself. I will try that if I get a chance tomorrow. It sure would be nice if you had someone you could swap coil assemblies with for a test.

I am kinda of the feeling it could be the opti and that the firing signals are just not arriving at the correct time (therefore backfires). That would mean that the optical portion was not able to read the shutter wheel correctly.

Yea, I wish I had someone to swap out asseblies, but I dont. It acts like its out of time, the back firing, but I dont think it could have jumped a tooth could it. All the t/c stuff is all new and went on without a hitch, real tight tension on chain. The car ran perfect the whole day before. It did have a leak that was hitting the opti that I didnt catch, it was'nt severe but the opti was wet. Opti has 80k on it and has had 4 w/p's puke on it. I'm thinking it might be that too, but just not sure. If u could figure out how to test the ICM that would be great Post here and I'll check when I get off work tomm., thanks for the input dude!!

I did the "a/c" test on my car (it happens to run ok ) and the most a/c voltage I got was 2.8v. It was mostly in the 1.5v-2.5v range as I cranked.

Wish I could help more.
