Shifting a CC503 at 6,000 to low?

I am getting ready to put a (small, 75) shot of N20 on my car, and realized that I need a tune anyways ( to elimate rev-limiter ). I already have the valve train. And thought why not have a small cam put in, that will lope good, will peak at 5800ish, and is perfect shifting at 6,000 RPM's ... So a CC503 seemed like the best bet... I think.

Opinions / Comments ?

It will be on STOCK heads. And I DO NOT want to have to rev past 6,000, especially since I will be spraying a small shot on it.

A mail order tuner get me close enough with a CC503, stock heads, and bolt ons, that I can drive it without worrying about A/F and such ?

A mail order tune will suit you fine, especially with a pretty common cam like that one

good luck!

Throw it on a dyno and find out where your power curve is.

First, read this:

Even something like a HOTcam likes to shift at 6,100-6,200rpm's, and that cam is smaller than a CC503. Whatever the case may be, you do not want to be spraying when you bounce off the rev limiter.

If you don't want to spin past 6K, you should stick with a cam that increases power in the stock rev range. Lingenfelter 211/219 and Crane 227 are both proven cams in this respect.

mine still pulls hard after 6000. I think at least 6300-6500

I recently dynoed my car with a 355 heads, 503 cam and bolt-ons. With a 200 shot my car peaked at 4500 and then starts to fall off.

On motor only my car made 342 and peaked at 5300 RPM's.

I didn't see an ignition on you sig, are you going to be running one? I'm running a MSD Digital 6 with 8 degrees retard at WOT.

The CC503 is going to want to shift closer to 6500 than 6000.... Get a small nitrous cam if you only want to shift at 6k, + your gains on spray will be alot bigger.

Will be running a Mallory 685, and I had to get the tune anyways to get rid of the rev limiter for when I am spraying, so I figured, I already have the valve train for it, why not throw a cam in. It wouldnt really cost me much more at this point to cam it. But I dont want something I had to spin super high.

And there was a couple posts a while back of bolt on, cc503 cars that were shifting in the 6000-6200 range. I remembered reading that they peaked around 5800 on stock heads and bolt ons, so I was aiming for a 6000ish RPM cam that will lope pretty decent, hot cam sounds sweet, but there seems like theres alot of better grinds out there that work in the same RPM range so ...
