Shift Skip?

I was driving a Z28 M6 recently, and for instance, when accelerating (even slowly) through first gear, "Shift Skip" light will come on and It will lock me out of 2nd gear, making me shift into 3rd. Its very strange.

Why does it do this? I could see it do this at high RPMs, but its not just at high RPMs. How can I turn this off? I'm not used to it so I'm missing shifts

Thanks

From what I've heard, the skip shift is GM's brain child idea for saving gas or something like that. Pesky little critter isn't it? If you want to bet rid of it, you can buy a bypass to put on it or you can go down to your local electronics store and buy a pack of 2.2kohm resistors. The plug-in for the skip shift is on the drivers side of the transmission near the rear. Unplug the connector and you will see two female connectors inside of it. Plug one end of the resistor in one hole and the other in the other hole. Tape it up nice and clean with some electrical tape and take a plastic tie and tuck it safely away somewhere. What your doing by putting the resistor in there is fooling the solenoid and sending a false signal. Your skip shift light will still come on, but it will slide right into second whenever you want.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

yup, that's what I did on mine. Rather spend like .10 on a resistor than $30 on a skip shift eliminator. It's really easy and won't take but a few min to do
