Re: Shaving Weight?

Depends how bad you want to ***** it out, keeping it nice, start out by take out the Rear seats, rear seat seat belts, spare tire and jack. From that point, you can take out the front sway bar, more of a traction deal, but shaves some weight. Depends on how bad you wanna make it light, a lot people ***** these cars out to save weight

Re: Shaving Weight?

How much weight is in the Rear Seat and Spare tire stuff. It's just something i can do to race a weekend and then put it all back together. (The Rear Seats might stay out for a while until needed) I don't think i will take the front sway bar out because i might be doing more of Road Racing/Time Trial stuff rather than Drag Racing it (occacionally might) But Thanks for the Advice.

Re: Shaving Weight?

So are the airbags but they are HELL to remove, especially the passenger side. I ended up breaking my dash but at least I have a dashboard cover to make it all better Here is a link to a list of weight reduction items I compiled while keeping a stock look except for the absence of the back seat, of course. It is post #14 and it is in this thread: http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=303211

You may also use "Speed Glass" to replace your factory glass to shave 64 pounds(4th gen) if you really want to get hard core about it. http://www.percyshp.com/speedglass_p...lass_home.html

Re: Shaving Weight?

My car is a factory FREAK. I have all the trunk stripped down, just some carpetting, no power seats, FG hood, everythign else factory all on my 1995 Firebird Formula. According to DMV when i brought my car through it weighed 3820 with me and 2 friends. 150+150+250=550, 3820-550= 3270 I can get pics and look for things that might have been done by the previous owner if you all want. It's defiantely not stipped, just the back where there used to be a system. I still have the rear seats and all.

Re: Shaving Weight?

Here is a pic of my trunk. I dont know what all weight reduction has been done. Maybe their scale was just off, but i dunno. It feels lighter then my dad's V6 camaro, as far as driving, definately way lighter then my stripped 79 Z28, lighter then the V6 mustang i had, but a little heavier then the porsche 944 i had. So maybe it really does weigh 3270.

Here's a pic. Ignore the dirt, i put the new transmission for my Camaro in it, and those wires were from the previous owner. He had over 3,000watts fo bass and broke the rear window, so thats been replaced with some heavy duty stuff. It was a competition/show car to him, it's gonna be my race car as soon as i sell my camaro

That's where the list above comes from.

FRRAX.com has some good weight reduction threads. I've compiled a spreadsheet of about 600 lbs of stuff that can be chopped off for cars that still need to turn.
