Sh*tty Brakes After Hotcam Kit Install?
Sh*tty Brakes After Hotcam Kit Install?
After Hotcam Kit install the pedal is LOW! BRAKE & ABS Light On
Replaced:
Master & Res.
ABS Unit
Booster
EBCM
Checked:
Blockage in lines
Air in lines
Fluid Level
Vacuum Lines
Vacuum Level
Vacuum reading is @ 28-30c. I was told that was average. Anyone have any ideas? I'm dying to know the answer to this one! Is it possible to have the cam off a tooth or two? If so then wouldn't it show on the vacuum readings???? If vacuum reading is good then throwing a canister on it would be pointless, but if it needs it then I think the cam is off if possible, since others are having no problems at all!
THANKS IN ADVANCE! BRAKES ARE DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!

I am currently running a CC306 with all stock brake crap with no problems. Sounds like you have air in the system especially when you replaced all that crap... more than likely in your ABS unit. What did you do to the brake system while your car was apart??
Check to see if your booster hose is connected. Forgot mine once.
Also whenever I have any problems with brakes, I go to Brake Masters for their free brake inspection. They check everything for free. Always courteous and speedy. Not hagglers either. They know I am there to screw them over. Then I roll out of there and fix it myself.

my car has the hotcam and although Im comparing it to an ls1 I drove and my 84 camaro , its brakes feel kinda weak. At first I thought it was just me not being used to an ABS setup . Not sure , might just be normal.
No Air in the lines, I bled these things religiously more than once!
Vacuum lines are ALL hooked Up!
Did a search on this many times, NO Answers yet! Maybe I should look into advanced section???
I work at a shop and everyone here is puzzled. That's why I questioned the hotcam install... maybe I installed the cam off a tooth... is that possible?
If so then would be off even making 300 rwhp with just the kit and borla exhaust?

Take it to the dealer. With our cars sometimes it's imopossible to get the brakes right with out the aid of the TECH2. If you get the car scanned they'll be able to pull up the codes in the system.
I did kinda what you did to the brakes and had 137+ Brake codes codes in the system. The guy couldn't believe it. I don't know what they were but once they cleared them and rebled the brakes everything was peachy.

My brakes don't feel quite the same as they did before the HC. However, they still stop hard when pressed. My wife has groused about it, and is actually frightened of the car, now. I think the there is a combination of things going on, and these issues are most evident while touring around town. Slightly reduced vacumn, requires more pedal pressure, slightly increased idle speed, also requires more pressure, and the slight "surging" combine to give the impression that the brakes are not up to par. Fact is my brakes work fabulously from 100 mph and down, I'm not worrying about the "issues."
BTW I did notice before I did the LS1 brake upgrade that the pedal required a LOT of pressure to induce lockup, and I also noticed that under heavy pressure the firewall would flex. I didn't notice whether you were LS1 or not, but if not, this will add to your sense of unease, in which case I suggest the brake upgrade.

I have the HC and my brakes are just like they were before the HC install. Is your car idling good? Because if it does, you should not have a vacuum problem (which should be at least 16). Other than that the cam doesn't have anything to do with your brakes.
Actually a cam will have a lot to do with brakes, because the cam affects vacumn, and the brakes use vacumn to provide the power assist. Any increase in engine speed will result in reduced vacumn. The nature of the cam itself results in reduced vacumn. Guys with really lumpy cams often have to run auxillary vacumn tanks and/or pumps to power the brakes.
If your brakes feel a bit funky around town you'll just have to learn to live with it or do one or both of the things mentioned above. As far as I am concerned it just adds a bit to the intrigue of driving very high powered car.
Hey, these things are not meant for 50 year old blue haired women to be taking down to the beauty parlour; they are only a few steps removed from real race cars by the time you are done adding a few of power adders.

A lot depends on your altitude and condition of engine.
I found that my car needed 12 - 14" of vacuum in order for the power brakes to function normally.
If you have that much vacuum, then perhaps your brakes need to be bled by a GM dealer, they do have a few tools that are not in use at everyday brake shops.
Hope this helps

Thanks guys for all you suggestions, I also posted this one in the advanced tech section too: http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...11#post1656611
Predator has been real helpful. I'm thinking of taking the car to the dealer in the spring. Thanks to all and Merry XMas
