SES light, surging, arching, rough idle after lifters & valve springs

I just got my car back from getting new lifters and valve springs and now I'm having other problems.

It drives fine for the first few minutes but then a very rough surging is felt and the SES light comes on. It will continue to surge every now and then randomly. Sometimes the SES light will go off while still driving but it normally comes back on ~5-10 seconds later.

I looked under the hood at night and saw the wires arching from the spark plug boots to the block. The wires and plugs are fairly new with only about 4,000 miles on them.

Any suggestions or starting points?

Also wondering if there is anything the shop that did the lifters could have done wrong to cause this problem (i.e. getting the opti wet). Before it went in the shop it drove perfect except for the annoying ticking of the lifter.

I will be able to hook freescan up to it tomarrow to see what code is causing the SES, I have a OBDI conversion to see the codes being thrown.

Thanks,

Yeah, that's the best starting point. Find out the codes, and watch and see what Freescan tells you when the car surges.
