Unhappy SES light on after getting into it hard!!

On the way to a friends house when I decided to step into it pretty good. It's been raining to the grounds wet, I figured I'd just spin around a little. Spun first, hit second and spun second for a LONG time then spun for a second in third then let off. After doing so I look down and my SES light is on. So ofcourse I was/am scared ****less. I pulled over and popped the hood, no obvious problems like smoke rolling out everywhere. I drove it home and it seems to run fine. I had my g/f watch the Fuel Pressure guage and it stays up. Sounds fine. I know the SES light could be anything. But it just seems it would be too big of a coencidence that it come on right after getting into it good. What do you guys think??? Please let me know. I'm scared

I used to ask on the board what a SES meant, until I found that usually you must get it scanned (AutoZone is great FREE place to get this done hint hint) Have you checked the air pump fuse? Happened to me once. Just get that code and tell us so someone can help ya

bad gas, WOT and O2s about to go out could cause an SES. But like mentioned before. Get it scanned.

Thanks a lot guys. Some good news, I just got back from taking the g/f home (took Mom's Rodeo) and figured I'd start my car and hope for the best. Sure enough the SES light didn't come on. I'm still gonna get the codes read at Autozone in the morning just to be safe. I'm relieved a little though

yeah, I would get it scanned. But the reason I asked is because I heard somewhere that not putting the gas cap on right can make the SES light come on for the first few cycles after filling up. It might just be a rumor, but I heard that you have to click the cap like three times once it is tight. Is there any truth to this?>

They couldnt check mine. I tried 2 different autozones. One lady told me that 94 and 95 were the early years of obd2 and the government was trying to get them to standardize it.

Where the hell did that come from. Did you have a brain fart or something. Its an automatic. Not much more then pushing the gas. How much skill does it take to drive? And what is the relation at all to this thread in your reply?

Which car are you referring to? If you are talking about Stephen's car it is a 6 spd. Unless he has done an a4 swap since yesterday....read his sig...but if you are talking about mine, you have solved my problem, I had wondered why my shifter went in a straight line instead of Diagnoly to 3rd gear!

He is a friend of mine.

My car isn't an auto...read my sig . Scott is a good friend of mine, I sent him the thread asking his opinion which he told me on AIM. Just posted that to pick at me. Blown car+rain+auto would probably be harder than you'd think . Scott has an AUTO car I doubt you or I could handle

Ummm egr is not active at WOT......
bad gas, WOT and O2s about to go out could cause an SES.
are you talking about a combo of these things together or individually? I have never heard of bad gas itself causing an SES, or WOT causing an SES, just a little confused by that one

I heard somewhere that not putting the gas cap on right can make the SES light come on for the first few cycles after filling up. It might just be a rumor, but I heard that you have to click the cap like three times once it is tight. Is there any truth to this?>
My dad has a friend who is a retired GM mechanic. He says he had many people who SES's for loose gas caps. Something to do with the EVAP system. I have had my gas cap loose before and no SES though? That cycling part sounds odd-silly rumors:P

I really dont wanna pay to have it checked. I'd rather just buy a scanner. Any reccomendations?
O'Reilleys had a scanner in the circular last week for 190 bucks, it was OBD 1 and 2. I am just saving up for a scanmaster but they cant retrieve codes on OBD2 cars.

Sorry about the b*tchy nature of this post, i am just moody right now
