SES and the electric fans

occasionally when driving the SES (Service Engine Soon) light comes on and along with it the electric fans come on, and when the SES goes off the fans go off...what is causing this? whenever it happens i tend to look at the water temp guage and its always in the normal area, so i figure it isnt running hot, what could this be?

PS it doesnt stay on long, maybe 3-4 minutes at most, but it happens everytime i drive the car.

When ever the SES light is on the computer will kick on one of the fans, not sure if it's both or just the primary fan, I guess it's just a safty measure?

The fans are programmed to kick on whenever the SES light is activated. Best thing to do to figure out why the SES light is being activated is to get a scanner on it.

My 95 Z28 did the exact thing, had it scanned for codes, was egr malfunction, replaced egr valve, problem fixed. May be the same problem, have the codes checked to be sure.
