Service Engine Soon

Hello to all,

I am having a wierd problem, which started today. When my cooling fans turn on, so does the "Service Engine Soon" light. When the fans turn off, so does the light. I have noticed the fans are kicking on about 170 degrees and will run for about 5-10 minutes before shutting off. I have a Hypertech Powerstat 160 degree thermostat installed along with the Power Programming Tuner. I removed the tuning and went back to stock, thinking that was the problem, but I am still getting the same result. No codes set in the computer (I was told the "On Board I" does not hold codes in memeory - can anyone back this up?)

Has anyone seen this before. Other than the light, the car runs fine. 95 Z-28 w/auto.

Any help would be appreciated.

Joe

I beleive your fans are programed to turn on when the CEL light comes on. So the fans are coming on with the light, not the light with the fans. Get the code to find out your problem.

A very common problem, which will turn on the SES light and the fans if a blown fuse for the AIR pump. Its always a good idea to get a scan , and KNOW what the problem is.

Well, that makes since, but does the On Board Computer (I) hold a memory? I had a tech use the scanner, but no codes were present...Where the hell is my sledge hammer?????

THANKS!!!!

Injuneer,

THANKS! That was the problem! Now, what the heck would cause the fuse to blow?

Wow, yu da man!

There was actually a factory "recall" on the 95 and newer AIR pumps, because of wiring problems. If it keeps blowing fuses, make the dealer fix it at no cost.

I think I am having the same problem (I think) with the AIR fuse. My '95 Z runs great but the idle rpm seems to be slightly slower than normal and sometimes I think it is going to kill the motor when at stoplights. When I am driving it, it runs fine and doesn't act like it needs a tuneup. What's weird is the Service Engine light stays on while driving but when I am stopped at a traffic light, the Service Engine Light goes off .. Can you tell me where that AIR Fuse is located? Thanks, Robert
