I have decided to commit some resources to improving the durability of the dreaded optispark ignition control module. First matter on the agenda would be determining the reason for failures. Obviously there is a problem with the housings being able to keep out the elements. I am not talking about just doing a cap and rotor replacement and fixing them for resale. I would thoroughly evaluate the causes of failures. We would also redesign some elements of the housing/sealing, as well as the friction bearing. If there is enough interest, which i feel that there is we should be able to get enough cores to start an exchange program. The only obstacle I see is what this could cost. As new units are 2-3 bills we would obviously need to keep costs down considerably. We could also look into venting the non-vented units as well. Let me know if there is an interest. Mods not trying to get by the paying advertiser rules here just gauging interest.
That would be cool. Spread the word i would need several to determine what route would work best. I have four or five local guys that could run my units for a test platform. If you want to send them email me for an address to ship to. of course anyone that participates in the donation process will receive preference in the future for the new and improved version.
There is a company out there that has already done this. They changed the housing, the bearings I believe and a few other items. I thought I had their webpage bookmarked but no such luck.
Anyone have a link to their website?

its not $700.00 its $599.00 with a 12 month/15000 mile warranty.
Thats a bit pricey id like to see them in the $125.00 to $150.00 range.
Jpolz asked are you looking dor any particular type? I just swapped mine out for the 95+ style. Are you looking for vented and non-vented?
I am planning to do both, as the non-vented type can be made vented.
