Seconds from going up in FLAMES.

A guy I know was welding in my driver side SFC, and those plastic fuel lines caught on fire. He didn't have a fire extinguisher handy...so my car almost went up in flames. As it was it was about a 2' long flame, burned the plastic fuel lines that run right there by the front sub frame, started going up the side of my car, but thankfully I dont' think it caused any visible paint damage.. so far the only thing ruined (that we see) was the plastic fuel lines. Cheap POS's!

But man, I swear I was about to watch my car go up in flames and burn down . Wow that would have sucked, we put it out by the water hose. How lucky are we that it wasn't a grease fire...man, I could have been so screwed. Whew.

For future reference, whenever you are weldilng on sub frame connectors, WATCH OUT FOR THE FUEL LINES ON THE DRIVER SIDE!!!!!!!

I believe most SFC connectors come with instructions to disconnect the fuel lines and move them out of the way. Sorry to hear of your delema. Maybe now's the time to sump the tank and put in braided fuel lines.

That warning has been made numerous times. I can't believe that people are so naive that they don't think that molten metal will burn through a nylon hose. It's sure not the hose's fault. Maybe this thread will help the next guy getting ready to do some welding.

Yes, the plastic factory fuel lines do suck, that is why they have been replaced with AQP stainless braided on my car.

I insulated and heatshielded my lines after my true dual install.

On top of that I put a 1/8" steel plate over the lines before we welded.

I covered mine with a piece of 1/4" steel and only welded the drivers side on 2 sides not on the fuel line side.

ive already burned down my fuel lines on my 97 T/A. I was ready to watch the car burn down in front of me too. I was on fire for a second but i was more worried bout the car .water hose saved the day. good thing it is a 100 ft hose. thankfully only lost a fender, tire, fuel lines and part of the bumper. stunk for a week!

Yeah I wish I would have seen the instructions a little better. Damn. But thankfully I only lo;st the fuel lines. The fender and paint and stuff looks ok. He's fixing the fuel lines now as we speak. Hopefully this serves as another warning for those getting their SFCs installed!

Common sense goes along way nowadays, too bad not enough people have it.

Close one egh.....It's good to keep a fire extinguisher in the ol' F-body. After seeing a guys car catch on fire at the Mall...I can't help but pack one....It was funny though...I didn't feel sorry for the guys car who was on fire..I felt sorry for the people parked next to him.

He's fixing it there. Thankfully the fuel lines are all that was damaged (So far that we see). But I'm pretty sure that's it. It should be done today..I've been waiting all damn day! I want to drive the beast!!!

had a similar incident with my 97 TA. Buddy was welding in the rollbar and the lines melted. He knew they were there,we had moved them, but the heat from welding the front plate to the floor melted them and up in flames.
I was white as a ghost and paralyzed........another friend smothered it with his sweatshirt, and only thing damaged was the lines,no paint harmed.
