Seafoammm......

whats the best way to use the stuff{to clean injectors,valves,ports,etc}....and do any advise AGAINST it ?
I think the directions suggest using a vac line or something.

thanx

Re: Seafoammm......

I cleaned my intake w/ it when it was off. Other than that I just poured it in the gas tank...it works graet but it makes your car smoke like a chimney

Re: Seafoammm......

Step one, get engine hot

disconnect a small vac line on the manifold
hold motor at about 1800 RPMs
slowly suck up the seafoam with the vacuum hose
It will make the car run rough, if you do it too fast the car will die
once the seafoam is gone get in and drive the **** outta it.
Just dont do it in an area cops will see you, you will bea leaving clouds of smoke for miles.
I highly reccomend it.

Re: Seafoammm......

I used the vacuum line procedure on my Z. It managed to take out both of my O2 sensors and clog catalytic converter. I wont use it again although maybe I did it wrong.

Re: Seafoammm......

I suppose there is a chance because I've heard of it happening. But ive done it this way about 10 times and never messed anything up. pull your O2s if ya like.

Re: Seafoammm......

I don't think the 02's will go out if you get the engine warmed up right. That might have been the problem.

Re: Seafoammm......

I've done this to about 5 different cars 2 or 3 times each.

Get engine hot
Loosen brake booster line
Start car and remove line you will have to plug quickly with your thumb otherwise the vacuum leak will stall the car
Bring vacuum line close to bottle and release thumb
Allow vacuum line to suck in just enough to keep it running (you may stall the car a few times but you'll get the hang of it)
Repeat until half of bottle is gone then turn off car (or stall it out)
Wait 30-45 minutes
Start car back up and watch it smoke then drive the **** out of it for a little while until it stops smoking
Reapet this process until you get no smoke.

Waiting is the most important part. I have even left it in my car over night before. Waiting allows the sea foam to soak in. If you do not wait it will not work correctly.

Re: Seafoammm......

HERE is a good write up about how to do it. I used the middle hose connected to the passanger side of the throttle body--worked out well.

Re: Seafoammm......

There's a little trick to not fouling up your O2's you have to DRIVE THE **** OUT OF IT! Got it? The harder you drive it the better. Have fun!

..lol last time I did it my friend was driving behind trying to keep up. I hit it and so much smoke poured out he had trouble seeing the road. I think I could of made the mosquito truck driver jealous!

Re: Seafoammm......

If the carbon build up were bad enough, you could have detonation problems along with knock retard. Or you have build up around a valve and loose some compression. Seafoam does a great job of cleaning the carbon off pistons and valves. They can almost look like new when you're done. HOWEVER, noone knows if it will damage the cat. Aside from possibly clogging it, does the chemical make up do something to the platinum? Similar to what leaded fuel does.

My first suggestion is don't use it unless you have some sort of knock retard problem. If you still want to use it then my suggestion is don't use it unless you remove the O2's and disconnect the cat while you're flushing it through the system. That would then negate the use of it in the fuel and therefore no benefit for the injectors.

I think for the majority of it's users, it made no difference what so ever and for some it was psycological.

Notice on this page from Seafoam that it's for Diesels and small engines but it doesn't mention gas automotive engines. http://www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUpTech.htm
