Re: Seafoam Makes Driving Worse

A hundred ? Wow, that's a lot of reasons!

The only effective way to diagnose any problem is to fix known issues, eliminating them as even potential. The OP should fix his fuel pressure problem before moving on to anything else. The fuel pressure issue might not be the fuel pump, it might be the regulator or even a feed line kink.

There are several assumptions that this is caused by 'gunk' that is being knocked loose. No such 'gunk' has been seen that I can tell. It might not even be the gunk at all...who knows.

Fast and Blue, fix the fuel pressure issue, then remove and have the injectors cleaned if you still think that's the problem. Maybe even switch them out with someone elses to see if that results in a different response.

Here's a good example. Suppose the "gunk" you refered to in the fuel rails got in the FPR holding it open and releasing some of the pressure back into the return line?????

I seriously doubt your pressure problem is from the pump.

Good point, that same "gunk" can make it's way to the injector filters

I just put seafoam in my truck. 97 diesel suburban, 295,000 miles. It started missing a little on idle and take off. Added seafoam, runs like new! I love that stuff lol

Re: Seafoam Makes Driving Worse

I'd never want to put a substance in my fuel tank that runs all the garbage in the system through the injectors. A few years ago I took my truck to a friendly mechanic for a brake job. For whatever reason he decided to run that stuff through my tank, and the truck developed a lean pop immediately. The seafoam dislodged some junk that wound up in the TBI injectors which had to be replaced.

Another benefit to using Seafoam in the oil system is that it removes all the crud that's keeping your old gaskets from leaking! Yeah, I got to put a set of valve cover gaskets on the old truck after he ran the stuff in my crankcase too .

That can of snake oil cost me half a day's labor and hundreds of dollars.

Re: Seafoam Makes Driving Worse

you may have some fuel pressure but maybe the pump isnt putting enough volume out

Did you check the fuel pressure regulator? if thats bad you could end up with low pressure
