Seafoam at 162k???

Saw the other topic and reminded me I need to ask, too. It's an LT1 with changed head gaskets, etc. What do you think? Good or bad at 162k miles? I can see it's pretty dirty when I look into the throttle body.

Even with the tons of carbon buildup I can see through the throttle body? Should I clean it out first before running it?

Re: Seafoam at 162k???

Not sure I understand the question. Seafoam cleans carbon so why wouldn't you use it? In your case, use the new spray can with the red plastic tube that is designed to slip under the rubber intake elbow and spray directly into the airstream entering the throttle body. This is designed to clean the intake. I recommend putting a bottle in to the fuel tank every oil change to keep the injectors clean.

Another old school trick is to squirt a water bottle into the air intake while keeping the RPMs up and that will clean out carbon too. Be ready for lots of smoke though.

I've heard advice that stated not to use injector cleaner on high mileage engines that have not had cleaner used on a regular basis,it has been reported that build up on lines comes loose which could and has clogged injector screens.

My personal experience is I started using it at 330,000 miles and now have 420,000 miles with no issues. At 162,000, I would say that car is just getting broken in.

But we're talking in the engine oil here. I use it in the gas and love it, but I'm terrified of throwing it in the oil, lol.

But Zrag, if that's when you started using it in the oil, I might as well go for it!

You have an LT1 with 420k on it that had to be torn down and rebuilt yet?
Impressive

I rebuilt it at 335,000 miles. Ran great until the camshaft starting ticking.

bro seafoam works, unless you screw it up yourself by leaving it in too long etc etc, then your fine. i do it ALL the time, and to plenty of other peoples cars too. just find legit instructions on it. and def change your spark plugs AFTER you do it

Oh good point. Dang I hate changing those plus, though. I have it down to about 3 hours, though, tops.

Re: Seafoam at 162k???

What is the proper way to do it? I used a cup and let it slurp it up out of an old coffee cup through the brake booster vacuum line. I didn't actually stick it in the cup with it. I would tilt the cup and let it suck it up until the car sounded like it was going to cut off and then stopped and did it all for half the bottle of seafoam, then poured the rest in the tank.

I didn't really get that much smoke. I've got all the stuff to do plugs and wires again and it sounds like this would be the time to do it.
