Screeching noise on start up after clutch install?

Ok, just finished my street twin install 2 days ago. Im having a real loud screeching noise on start up. Its real faint when the starter just trys to start, then when it starts, it a real loud, quick screech. this is the only time it makes this noise. otherwise car drives great.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ryan

The ST flywheel is a skosh larger than the stock one. You need to shim the starter away just a bit. You can get shims just for that at an auto parts place, and they sit underneath the starter (between the starter and the tranny).

The issue is that the gear in the starter is pushed too hard against the flywheel, so the starter needs to move away from the flywheel, by a very small amount. A shim is a thin flat piece of metal, maybe 5/100" of an inch thick or so. You remove the starter, and slip this shim under the bolts that hold the starter down, so it doesn't end up sitting quite so close to the flywheel. Conceptually you could do this by simply putting some washers under the starter bolts, but a shim is a better way to go.
