Unless it's used, Autoxray no longer has a scan tool for under $200. They do have a code reader for under $200. Do not confuse a code reader with a scan tool. Read the description very carefully.

It depends on what you want to do. A code reader only pulls the trouble codes. A scan tool not only will pull the trouble codes, it will also read all of the sensor values so you can see if there is a potential problem. Do a search for scan tools in the search box at the top of the page. Look for Injuneer's write up on them. Neither will tell you for sure what's wrong with the car 100% of the time. They will point you in the direction to start looking.

ok soo im having horrible stumbling, checked the wires, checked the plugs, put a new egr valve in, new o2 sensors, but i got horrible gas mileage also, soo i was hoping a code reader could point in a direction on what to look for. could it be the ignition coil not workin properly....i got a 1995 z28 with 150k on it today...

You'll need a scantool for that kind of problem determination. A code reader will only work if the SES light is on.
