Saving Up For a LT1!
Saving Up For a LT1!
Hey wassup...
I work at me-n-eds right now delivering pizzas and stuff, and im currently saving up for a z28... lt1... I would actually get it right now... But I don't want to trade in my prizm... Simply because its been to reliable to me for my job.. And if I drove the z... I know I'd be gunning it on EVERY delivery.. Anyways, I was just wondering if I could get specs on z28... from 93-97.. HP/TQ.. And 1/4 mile et's...
And..
Hows reliability? And Top End?
I've searched and every thread came up into a dispute or mixed opinions...
Thanks for your time!!
Peace.. (HOPING FOR A Z28 PROJECT CAR!)

That site should give you plenty of info on the spec's on HP/TQ etc etc.
A very basic summary would be:
'93 = Speed Density w/ the 4L60 auto trans and the T-56s didn't have an ideal 1st gear ratio.
'94 - '97 = MAF with '94-'95s having a single cat and using the OBDI computer... the '96 and '97s getting dual cats and using the OBDII computers.
Its very debatable of course but most seem to agree that '95 Z's and T/A's are the best year for mod-related reasons w/ having the OBDI PCM w/ an OBDII connector inside as one of the reasons.
Good luck with getting a nice LT1 though! This ia good place to be if you're looking for more info about them
Just browse the forums some more and you'll surely come across a few threads that will answer any of your other questions. I know there are plenty out there with issue's about the optispark and other various problems that seem to come up often with the LT1s.

The camaros are very reliable but stupid little things go wrong. a power windor motor here and an opti spark there. a squeek here and locked CD player there. If you dont have some wrench twisting abilities... your budget is in for a sqeeze. most repairs are cheap and easy but time consuming.
The engine itself, transmission (6spd and to a lesser extent auto) are very staut. The LT1 is VERY strong, the T-56 holds 600hp+ and the auto can be built real strong for real cheap.

For the Z28's:
93-95 Z28's have 325 ft-lb. peak tq@2400rpm / 275 peak hp@5000rpm
96-97 Z28's have 325 ft-lb. peak tq@2400rpm / 285 peak hp@5200rpm
thanks to minor improvements
In 1996 the SS was reintroduced:
96-97 SS's have 305 peak hp I believe
thanks to air induction, and other stuff...
Over all, quarter mile times seem to be in the very low 14's for stock LT1's, with some factory freak LT1's being able to put up mid-to-high 13-second passes down the 1320. However they respond fairly well to modding.

I test drove a 95 Z today.. It was hella cool too.. 6 spd... t-top and had 80K on it.. the price was 8000... What do you think??? Is the mileage a bit high?? I actually plan on using this for drag/weekend cruiser...
Peace..

Yeah, I would say that it is a bit high. I got my 94' w/ 59,000 miles for 6,700. That is the best deal I ever found......(IMO). There is a lot of other stuff to look at. Such as who put the 80K on the car? Was it granny or a 16 yr old? If it was taken care of, the car should last a fairly long time. However, if someone dogged the hell out of it, you are proabably in for some repair bills. Also the opti spark is notiorious for crapping out near the 100,000 mile range, so keep that in mind. I guess to sum everything up, if everything is running well and there are no signs of an accident, i would say you should pay no more than $7,500. I prob. would not even pay that.
