Safe to "break-in" with 42# injectors? Will I get "ring wash"?

I was talking to a friend of mine, he said it might be a good idea to put my stock injectors for the break-in period of my 383. He said if I'm programmed for 42#/hr injectors, there might be too much fuel and it'll wash the rings off of oil and they won't seat & break in properly. Is this true, or do I have anything to worry about? Should I just leave it be and run it with the 42# units in there?

Dave

Re: Safe to "break-in" with 42# injectors? Will I get "ring wash"?

when u break in a stock motor with 24lb/hr injectors, and stock tuning, everything seems to be fine. Breaking in a motor with larger injectors and offset adjustment for them on a MAF sensor vehicle should be no different, assuming all else is the same.

If the programming itself is good at idle, acceleration etc., with no times that the motor is running rich, that should be the most important factor.

The point of progamming for larger injectors is to prevent them from dumping too much fuel.

Ask my friend chris about this one Yea, as long as it is programed for the injectors you are runing you should be fine. Runing it on the stock injectors would prolly work to break it in as well, al long as you don't turn it to 7k.

I too had several conversations about this and as long as your car is programmed for the larger injectors, you'll be fine. I broke in my stroker on 24# injectors, which is what the car was programmed for at the time.

I've had Lucas 42s in my 383 since It was first fired. As long as you program it for the new injectors it will be fine.

Think there was some confusion, if your pcm was tuned for stockers and you had the 42lbs in there then you would wash the cylinders down, but with the proper programming it will be fine. Also make sure the FPR is working and has vacuum, I have heard of guys washing down new motors due to such a stupid little detail, so busy bolting up big stuff an important little item got missed.

As long as you program for them, you will be fine....otherwise you get a new shortblock like yours truely.

Excellent thanks for the good news!

How exactly do I check for vaccuum there? I assume go to the auto store and get a vac gauge...it probably says somewhere how much vaccuum I'm supposed to have...

Just make sure the vacuum line is connected to the intake fom the fpr. You don't neet to check the vacuum anywhere.

Got it, I'll make sure that's hooked up, I'm pretty sure it is already.
