Do you like the XE 218/224? I was planning on going w/ the LT4 HotCam kit. Lloyd is porting my heads and he suggested the XE 218/224 as maybe the best for my situation. I may have to worry about passing emissions(sniffer, I'm not concerned w/ the visual) in the near future so I can't go too wild. Along w/ the heads, and cam kit I am putting on JetHot LTs. He suggested the XE 224/230 but was concerned that I may have problems w/ the emissions testing if I used it. I have a basic understanding of cams but not enough applied knowledge, like how much actual real life difference there is between the 112 and the 114.
My questions for you are -
Should I go w/ the XE218/224 cam kit from CM over the HotCam kit from Jason?
Should I go w/ 112 or 114 on the XE? Why?
Anyone have problems passing emission in their state w/ the 218/224 112or114?
Would the 224/230 be too much to pass the average emissions testing?
I know there has been plenty of old posts on cam selection becasue I've read HOURS of them but I just wanted your input for this application.
TIA

The 114 lsa will have a better chance at passing because (from what I understand) the intake and exhaust valve will not be open at the same time for as long as the 112. The difference in power between identical cams with the exception of 112 vs 114 won't be anything drastic, it may not even be noticeable via SOTP. The 114 will also idle smoother. This will may also be of benefit because you won't raise any eyebrows at the inspection due to having some out of the ordinary rumpety-rump going on. Especially if you have a little higher idle (850 or something along those lines).
What I would do is get on the phone with a shop that specializes in heads, cam design, etc. Combo and Nu-Tek are the ones that immediately come to mind. Tell them what you've got going on and get a recommendation. Who knows, you may wind up with a custom grind to perfectly suit your needs/requirements.
Good luck!
BTW - if I'm out in left field about the LSA stuff, then I take it all back

Well the only answer I can give you is that I like it a lot.Dont have emissions.I honestly dont know how people deal with bigger cams in daily drivers.Maybe an A4 would help.I debated between the 502 and hotcam for a while and am quite happy with my choice.

The XE218/224/112 is a nice cam for the street and should pass emissions. Don't worry yourself to death about cam selection among the cams you are considering. You have good choices in front of you. If you have tough inspections and/or are not able to get help from a local tuner to help dial in a bigger cam for inspections, the XE218 is a safe bet.
A 114LSA will have a better chance of passing a tailpipe inspection, as mentioned above, all things considered. If you feel the XE224 is what you must have get it with a 114 and get help with a custom PCM program.
With any of the cams you mention and those good heads you'll have one fast car!

I love my XE502! I believe this to be the best off the shelf street cam available for an LT1 at this time. I would definately choose it over the Hot Cam. The XE 503 is also an excellent cam but as I have said before the largest I would use on a daily driver . Larger is not always better when it comes to cams. Both cams will work beautifly with your stock heads with Lloyds handy work. You can probably pass emissions with either cam but the XE503 would probably take some custom dyno tuning where as the 502 could probably get by with a mail order tune. Good luck!
