Rust on rocker arms?

For some reason when I pulled my valve covers I found a rust substance on my Comp Pro Magnums? What could be causing this and why?

Have you let the car sit around for a long time, undriven?

I would think that you got some water in there somehow. But then the car would still have to sit for a little while to cause rust.

Are you sure its rust. I see you said that it was a rust like substance. I've seen old parts that get burnt from the oil with a bronze tinge to them. Dunno if that sounds funny but just curious. But unless you got water in your oil and your car hasn't been sitting I dunno what it could be.

It does sound like its more of a oil substance that was burned..I remember when I installed my Canton Oil pan I saw the same thing on a few of my maincaps.

I only drive the car 25-50 miles a week if that...

Why would the oil do this?

Whoa.....I actually was correct on that shot in the dark. It's just oil slightly burnt onto the metal from the extreme heat. Not a big deal. Get some solvent if you want. It cleans them off.

Out of the motor of course.
