runs rough, white smoke exhaust
Hey guys,
Ok, I know everyone has beaten the white smoke out of the exhaust question to death. I seem to have a similar and different problem at the same time.
My car starts okay but runs rough after a few seconds. When you take off it wants to trip on itself and not go. Kinda like cutting out for a couple of seconds. When you really give it, it goes like normal and flies at high rpm. When at idle it runs rough and the tacks all drop with the engine slightly. Like it wants to die and then changes its mind.
Then I noticed white smoke out of the tail pipes but there is no coolant in my oil and the coolant seems to be normal with no oil. The levels are both up on the oil and the coolant. The coolant looks really rusty color but I think thats normal for dexcool.
Any help much appreciated. I need my vehical to get to work!

The white smoke could be initial water vapor burning off until the system warms up. Have your engine scanned for knock counts; the knock sensor system will pull timing and cause the car to hesitate.

Im hoping it is water vapour, it was sitting for a few days. If the knock sensor is causing the problem then I have to replace that sensor? Sounds like either way I am going to have to hook it up to the computer.
Are those computers that people can buy in the stores any good? Probably not as accurate as the garages have.

Okay I went and bought a $400 cdn scanner... the OBD2 by INNOVA and has pulled no codes. So apparently all is running well but yet it is still running rough. When taking off, going up a hill, or idling, it runs rough. The white smoke I believe is gone. The engine tac, oil, and batt all drop and bounce back up a bit when it runs rough. What could this be?
