It runs!!! (LE3.2 355)
It runs!!! (LE3.2 355)
Finally! The last time my trans am saw the road it was may 6 2007 on the back of a tow truck due to a spun bearing after a hotcam install. I figured it gave me room to go bigger and better so that's exactly what I did: fully forged 355 with le3 heads and le3.2 cam. I set a goal of getting the motor done last April, but due to my College budget it just didn't work out. A year later though, I finally turned the key over and she runs!
I haven't got it on the road yet cause there are a few quirks I have to work out... When I started it I couldn't get it to idle but I also had a vac line disconnected so I hope that's what it is. I'm also going to go 1 heat range cooler (tr6) with .35 gap instead of stock gap. Should idle easier hopefully. Anything else I should look into as far as idle? And what kind of breaking in is suggested? Video of start up will be up soon! Ps- 3" TD with bullets and a 600 lift cam is NASTY!
8/30 UPDATE!!! Here is an idle video of the car running good: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...deoid=62619402

Do you have a mail order tune in it at least? If not that is why it refuses to idle.
Break in is personal opinion, I would drive it one notch before you stole it hehe.
Drive it 20 miles, make sure nothing is going to fall apart, change oil, run it.
I am changing my oil again at the 200 mile mark, then the 1000, then I am just going to change it normal after that.

I'm running a cc306 cam in a 383 and my car idled right away. It was a high idle but it was an idle. Thats with stock injectors and stock tune. After the tune and injectors it has a perfect idle. I'm not sure if thats going to help you or not
ya i have a mailorder tune from ion. The idle could be so many things since i changed just about everything. Im gonna bump out the idle screw like suggested and check the iac sensor. It smells like its running super rich but i didnt run it very long at all. I also think i may have the preload set a little too tight on the lifters so im going to reset that tomorrow. Hopefully doing these things will enable it to idle at least a little bit.
The spark plug gap is also a little on the loose end of the spectrum as i just kept it at what they came gapped at... .055 I know that was dumb on my part but thats about stock so i figured why not. thats actually the very first thing im going to be doing in the morning (changing to .035 . thank god for longtubes haha!

turns out the culprit was the roller rockers were wayyy to tight causing the valves to hang open... pretty big difference now lol. (no worries... ran less than 2 minutes total probably) Still havent put it on the road but this weekend it definitely will be!
