It runs! Innovate wideband install question...

I got the 385/Ai LT4 head/Brookshire cammed engine in my 97 running (fired on first turn of ignition) and have been following the break in procedure recommended by my builder (yes, I could just wail on it now, but I want this engine to live a little while) while chasing down very minor annoyances (rattling TD pipes, tending to a typically failing Optima, etc.). Car pulls strong, is balanced better than any other engine I've had before, has a nice chop at idle, and no SES codes (all sensors are operational and everything works).

I'm looking at installing an Innovate wb 02 meter in the car - do any of you guys have it? did you cut/weld another bung in the collector? I've heard of guys using the rear bung (my rear 02's are deleted with sims) but I've also heard that the reading should be in the same vicinity as the front 02's. Any truth to this?

I'll dyno the car days prior to the first track day next year and post up results.

im planning on getting an AEM wideband this spring, and ill be adding my own bung in the y-pipe for it. If youre OBD2 you can probably just use one of the cat monitor bungs.

well i meant that as an era car, so if your car was OBD2 it should still have the bung(s) back there

The best thing to do is to add a bung. If you bought the innovate you should slready have one. I have always tried to keep them close to the placement of the O2 and it has always seemed to work out good. I also have used the innovate on many cars we have put together and it works great. I have also tried Motec and AEM widbands on some of our stand alone computer setups.

Thanks for the link.

My builder insists on welding another bung close to the primary 02's - they've had excellent luck with this method in the past. I've just heard from othyer reputable source that the rear bung can be used too.

ok.

well if you are only doing one bung (im not sure if you can run two) i suggest putting it right in the y-merge so you get a reading of both banks instead of just one.

Mine is right after my merge... granted its a little different than yours but it helps to see both banks.

I run the lc-1 and love it. Bought as cheap as they get for in the box ready to go setups.

I have one analog output programmed 0-1v lean-rich hooked up to a cheap led afr gauge. The other is setup for my standalone.

just one, and since I have true duals, I'll have to pick a bank to monitor.

Congrats Michael! I'm glad you're finally getting it running.

How does it feel compared to the last setup? What are the big changes? Is Jeff coming out for the tune again? (I want in if so).

When you plan on racing, send me a PM. I've got an enclosed trailer and want to make it to some away tracks. I'd love to head up and go racing with enough notice.

And we have always run the wide bands in add-on bungs just behind the stock narrow bands. Seems to work great.

then that would be the ideal place to weld your O2 bung

Thanks Sean! A long road, for sure. It is louder than the last set-up (much higher compression), and runs awesome. In the short, 4500rpm jaunts thus far, it feels a lot stronger and pulls harder than the C6, and frankly, feels a lot like the Chevelle.

The big changes are: another custom ground (and degreed) cam from a reputable designer, higher SCR/DCR, tighter quench, blueprinted set-up (verified this time), different program, ported LT4 manifold, Morel lifters, Manton PR, same ratio roller rockers (no mixed ratio) and close attention to detail on everything we did. I'll call Jeff and see if he wants to come out for another left-coast vacation after the holidays.

I'll PM you on the next track day here and see if you want to pull that beast up for some runs.

And yes, that's exactly where I'm going to put the bung for this system after reading the input here.
