I am only currently running hooker longtubes and an x-pipe. Nothing after the x-pipe. It stops right in the middle of the car. I heard that you could damage teh valves this way. Is this true? How would my car run if I had vavle damage?

Not going to cause damage to your valves, slap whoever told you that. Only thing you could possibly cause damage to would be the underside of your car from the hot exhaust gases.

Well diggity dang. I really believed it too. What he told me exactly was that if I took it way up to 5 or 6 grand in gear and backed out, that would be bad.

IF ya had a 12" straight pipe right off the head,for exhaust,he would be right in a way. The cool air outside air would get to the HOT exhaust valve and possibly warp it,but IMO only if the engine is off and it's a rare chance.A team down here ran that set up on a sprint car for years with no effect on the valves and I worked for the engine shop that built his engines.

Lots of cars run open headers all the time, whoever told you that is a retard. If you ran the engine without headers or manifolds at all it is very likely that could happen, but almost impossible with open headers. The fact that you have the xpipe on it makes it even more unlikely to occur.

no damage to your valves. its an urban legand. first off, if you ran tuned headers and a collector of the right length, you would see the best hp. secondly, no matter what you have read or been told, anything after that is a restriction. it is true that the exhaust valve can be cooled and possibly cracked or warped, but not with 30+ inches of pipes coming off the head. this is only possible if you ran open heads or maybe manifolds, but even then its a slight chance. on an emissions controled vehicle however, it will send codes and try to correct for emissions.

This can only be true if your running shortys or stock exhaust manifolds, not with long tube headers. The idea is if your running high rmps and you suddenly drop off it could cause cold air to flow back into the header and instantly "freeze" the valve. Thats the idea anyway I don't know how valid it is but i'm sure you will be fine with long tubes.

An instructor at my school has run a 350 w/out any exhaust. Super loud and w/ blue flames coming out the ports. He laughed when someone asked him about damaging valves without a complete exhaust.

Ran mine with open headers (longtubes) for almost 2 weeks and the only problem i had was with the law.

How loud would you say it was? Loud enough to get pulled over just sitting at a light? My headers are itching to get put on & I've got the y-pipe too but ups seems to have misplaced my new cat-back and I don't want to try to screw with the stock I-pipe.
