Running Rich...How can i fix?

Ok, I have been getting a lot of carbon coming out of my exhaust when i first start the car and I also have been noticing that my rear bumper is getting stained.

So i imagine that i am running rich....So how would i go about fixing this problem?

I will be cleaning my fuel system out the next time i fill up and I recently changed my fuel filter and checked my catalytic converter.

So what else could be causing me to run rich? I have been having a problem with my EGR valve sticking, could this cause a rich problem?

Also, if i bought a Adjustable Fuel Pressure regulator could i dial down my fuel pressure to compensate for the elevation and run a little leaner?

Thanks

You dont have that many posts, is this car new to you? How many miles? I would 1st check a few things.

1.Do plugs/wires need to be changed.
2. Air cleaner good ?
2. EGR Valve, its on drivers side in back on intake manifold. See if you can push in die-a-fram(sp). If you can't it may need to be cleaned/replaced.
3. These cars all run rich a nice MadWolf tune would help.

get a pcm scan

u need to get that car scanned.

an 02 sensor could of crapped out and send funny signals to the pcm to open the injectors up. Map could be unplugged or stuck high = rich mixture.

could be a number of things. I would get the sensors scanned before doing anything.

Well I replaced the passenger side o2 sensor and now they both are running sequentially. When i scan it they both move in unisen and run lean at idle when i first start it...

Anyway, I recently replaced the spark plugs and wires, fuel filter and installed a Holley CAI..

I guess i will just experiment a little bit and hopefully get it to lean out a bit..

Thanks

Yep, check the o2 sensors first..Don't mess with the Adj. Fuel pressure reg...The computer actually controls that aspect of it, during p/t...By adjusting the fuel pressure regulator, it only affects it at WOT...
