Without a tune it would be pointless to put in any cam.

Re: running hotcam.

I have been told by several people within GM that the LT4 hotcam was designed to run well with the STOCK programming, but will gain a little more if tuned specifically to each car. I intend to see how it runs WITHOUT any sort of custom tune, other than my home-brew with TunerCAT.

You'll need a tune, If you read about the hotcam kit in summint it even says you'll need a tune, Unless your just talking about just the cam. But the whole hotcam kit requires a tune

Why not spend 75 bucks and get custom tune?

Re: running hotcam.

if you do a core, you won't be without your car for more that 10 minutes, i did that wiith madz28.com it took 3 or 4 days for mye to get the computer, takes no more that 10 minutes to put it in, then you just ship your computer back to them. even if you don't do a core exchange it takes about 7 days.

Here's my experience:

All basic bolt on modifications, moderate homeported heads, HOTcam kit. It ran, but was so rich that it would stumble and backfire through the intake if I stabbed the gas. 1/8th mile times:

Bolt ons- 9.1
Cam/heads no tune- 8.5
Cam/heads with tune- 8.1

You where told wrong, and you should not take anymore advice from those folks.

Like the diet pill ads say 'your results may vary'. When my car had a hot cam and hooker LT's it made 345 rwhp & 346 rwtq (mail order tune from pcm4less). If you have tuner cat, then one of the tuners could just e-mail you a tune, and you can upload it your self. If not just relax and let it go a couple of days and waite for the right stuff to get there. A crappy running car is the last thing you want.

Re: running hotcam.

YMMV, but it will run fine on stock tuning, if all you are doing is the cam kit. It may run a bit rich, it may not be optimized, but you can get by.

My dyno tuning got the A/F ratio set properly and as far as numbers are concerned, only gained 5 hp/tq over sock tuning.

Re: running hotcam.

I can tell you from experience of driving a hot cammed car that was was originally untuned, and later on got it tuned.

You'll only be helping yourself by getting it tuned. I can assure you that much. I got my mail order tune from PCM4Less and my car was down for a total of 10 mins while I swapped out the PCM and put it in a box to ship back to Bryan. You'll be much happier with the daily driveability and overall feeling of the car with the tune.
