If you are sitting in traffic for long periods of time and your car starts to heat up simply turn your AC or defrost on. The car will actually run cooler because it forces your cooling fan to come on therefore moving air through the radiator and cooling things down. SLP makes a nice fan switch for like $80. I got it, and it works great......here is the link http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...RTNUMBER=63011

You will not find a 160 thermostat for LT1 for $6.00. If you do not reprogram fans for lower temp then changing thermostat may have little if any effect at idle.

Maybe you have air in your cooling system. When you turn your car off, and the coolant in the cooland resovior is "boiling", then you have air in the system. Or you could have a wrong coolant/water mixture.
