Running car w/o CATS. Any problems possible?

I heard a great sounding Z-28 and asked the driver about his set-up. He finally told me that he had removed the dual CATS and added a FLOWMASTER and his "service engine soon" light was the only negative item about the modification. MY QUESTION IS: is it possible to run the car this way without any other negative events? Will the stock tune of the car be affected or any other reasons this CAT removal would be unwise? Would the addition of O2 simulators be a smarter way of running the car without the CATS. Thanks for a reply and please don't chastise me with your "do a search" comment as there are people willing to provide answers when asked.

No running without cats won,t hurt the car. The environment is another thing but big corporations spew out alot more crap than my little LT1.
O2 sims would solve your check engine light problems.
I personally ran Hi flow cats when I had stock manifolds and was running different catbacks but since the LTs went in I chucked the cats and the AIR and EGR.

They can lock up and fine you thousands of dollars. Besides that.....

Go for it, cheaper than buying a high flow cat

If the cat is not in place or not functioning, it will come on. You have two options, get O2 simulators for $90-100 to replace the rear O2 sensors to "trick" them into thinking that there are cats when there aren't, or get a custom PCM tune and have them programmed out, along with lots of other goodies available for around ~$130 - www.madz28.com
