I've seen header install guides that recommend it.

Does the header gasket area get too hot for the Permatex Ultra Copper RTV? I'm not sure.

I think I have a header leak or a collector leak and want to put some Ultra copper on there, but don't want to go past it's usable temp range.

Thanks,
Dan

do you use a thin or thick bead around the ports?

When I helped a friend install his BBK shorties in his 94Z, we used Ultra Copper. We ended up running a thick and clean bead around the gasket on both sides, and set the gaskets up so they could partially dry. While it was somewhat dry but tacky, we installed headers with the gaskets. It's kinda' tricky to do it that way, but I think it's best in the long run.

Worked perfectly, and that's how I'll do it again.
