RS camaro Air dam (deflector) part number

Looking to get a liittle more airflow over the radiator, i know the "RS" version of the camaros came with larger air deflectors, but a search here and on GMpartsdirect.com yield nothing, only the regular one (10229657)

Any help?

I find only one deflector listed in the parts book for all models. Nothing special for the RS.

Me too, but im Pretty sure they made them is the wierd part. I even remember Scott Settlemire talking about it when he came to our local car club. And i remember a old friend saying he got one for his car.

I swear im not crazy

If so, it's not listed in the parts book. The front fascia that the RS used had slots in it to let the air through, so I don't know why it would need a different air deflector.

I looked through the parts book too, and couldn't find it either.

Wings West makes one that they put in all their kits. There is no need for a longer air dam on RS cars, so not sure why it would be different as said above.

Re: RS camaro Air dam (deflector) part number

I've ran my Camaro with WW ground effects for years, sans air deflector, and I've never had any overheating problems. It will hit about 180*F to 200*F on a hot day, but I plan to fabricate a sheet metal plate that channels the air from the two "holes" in the WW front ground effect panel and direct it onto the radiator, to assist with cooling the engine. Granted, it won't be as efficient (in terms of air flow) as the WW air deflector or an OE defector w/ RS ground effects, but at least I won't have to worry about clearance issues. WW ground effects + lowered 1.5" = deflector that doubles as a "street/garbage sweeper"...

I dont have any kind of body kit, I just want it for two reasons
1...much more airflo into the radiator/intercoolers
2. kinda a race car design deal. it blocking the air from going under the car in the front. faster air going over the top creates a low pressure under the car, sucking it down to the ground.

It will scrap the ground, with the coil overs and BMR a'arms its lowerd about 2 -2.5 inches.

Well, I wasn't implying your idea was bad, I simply offered my experiences w/o an air deflector, and what I planned to do as a "substitution" for one. For a lower one, I'd contact Wings West, or post a "wanted" thread in the proper subforum. If you knew a good metalsmith, they could fabricate you a NICE one that wouldn't get jacked up as bad like the plastic ones do. That's actually why I don't have one anymore. I went over one too many steep driveways and speedbumps, which slowly cracked it over time until it broke off completely. If you're looking for something durable & permanent, I'd look into having one fabricated out of stainless steel...

Also, another idea for extra radiator cooling would to remove your fog lights, and possibly even modify the foglight "holes" to be larger...

Ususlly with a modified motor, you need the air dam & running without one will cause overheating.

The Wings West version works rather well. It is made from a thick (about 1/4") flexible plastic. It will clearance itself to the ground based on your cars height. It will scrape for the first week or so, then slowly it will become the necessary height. My car is lowered with ground effects & still remains cool with a blown 383 motor.

Ducting the grille openings & ground effect openings will do little for cooling if you allow the air to flow under the car. The airdam causes a low pressure area behind the radiator which helps to draw air through it as well as air over the motor. This part should be definitely left on the car.

Duly noted. Thanks for explaining the physics behind it. Makes logical sense. I've never had problems with mine, however, I've done a number of mods to help keep the temps down. There's no point to one, though, if you've got an OE air deflector & a thick front valance (like the WW kit) that blocks it (right?), or will it still help create a low pressure area? I'm just trying to figure out an alternative, since I've ALREADY destroyed an air deflector from all the speed bumps and junk...

BTW, I dunno what you did with your air deflector, but mine cracked and eventually broke into several pieces...

Re: RS camaro Air dam (deflector) part number

Ive been through several WW longer air dams with mine too. They hold up pretty well, but eventually crack apart.

The most recent one is the best so far. I took a stock air damn and then a WW air dam and formed them together into one. Its still longer, but since the OEM is used for the mounting portion, it flexes more. Knock on wood, so far so good.

My car ran fine with bolt ons, but after I went to internal mods it wouldnt stay cool without the longer dam. I have 160 stat, tuning, elec h20.

how much are you willing to pay for one? i have the stock one i think in pretty good condition laying around, then i have the wingswest one which is kinda cracked(not sure if fixable) since it was longer so it hit the speedbumps and etc. so i made a similar design out of aluminum instead of rubber but with rubber endings for my camaro, and its workin nicely, looks nice, and it wont break. but if your interested ill sell you the stocker.
