rough idling in closed loop

my car idled like a champ when i first started it,then when it warmed up and went into closed loop,i idled like hell, like sputtering and such, but it always ran great in upper rpms, only idle problems.well, this made me think it was the o2 sensors.well since i didnt have any other way to check them,i unplugged them and it idles great, but my question is,why is th ses light not coming on with these unplugged, and will it hurt anything to run it with them unplugged until i get a chnce to change them.i know that according to the shop manual, when they arent functioning, that the a/f mixture runs a default setting.sorry so long,i just dont understand why no light or nothing, any input fron you experts?

what year is your car?

i too think the O2 sensors would be causing the problem... i had one go bad on me and it made my idle rough.

yeah that is strange... maybe the light is out? try unplugging a vital sensor like the MAP sensor and see if that will give you SES. have you done the heated O2 conversion?
