in the morning when i start my car, it runs rough and the SES flashes (probably multiple misfires) then after about 1/2 mile it smooths out and engine lite stays lit but steady. It has been getting steadily worse over time and now idle's rough in gear. Car has 113k on it and I assume that it needs new plugs, wires and optispark.

Also, car is losing coolant, (I have added about 1/2 gal over the past few weeks when the "low coolant" lite has come on. Can't see any leaks- water pump replaced 2.5 years ago. Oil looks normal after 3K miles since last oil change.

Any ideas?

Optispark is dead, probably related to the coolant loss. Verify that the waterpump is good (leaking weep hole or not) and get the codes scanned at auto zone to make sure.

 

Autozone will pull the codes on a '96. Post the codes when you get them.
