Rough idle and o2s reading 999. NEED HELP!!!

Yesterday I was about to take the car to the track for the first time since the new motor install and for whatever reason the car didn't want to go pass 20 mph. I've put over 500 miles on the car with no problems until now. It was bucking pretty badly, causing me to have to pull off the road. The right side o2s were reading 999, according to the scanmaster, but dropped back down when the engine wasn't under load. I figured since I had just washed the car that maybe water had gotten onto the intake somehow then gotten into the opti. I was hoping that today it would've been better...it wasn't. I did find that the #7 plug wire was resting on the header and possibly burnt through but I can't imagine that causing the entire problem I'm having. I will try a different wire tomorrow but if that doesn't work can you guys give me some advice on what you think the problem could be? Thanks.

I changed the damaged wires but the problem still exists. I guess no one else has had this problem???

Re: Rough idle and o2s reading 999. NEED HELP!!!

I would replace the o2 sensors if they are not new (and maybe even if they are). My o2 sensors had ~1000 miles on them when I installed my new motor. I added jet-hot coated headers at the same time. Both of my o2 sensors died after about 500 miles. I think that the coating burns off and hurts them.

You can always swap the two O2 sensors and see if the problem follows the sensor. If the problem moves to the left bank, the sensor is bad. If it stays in the right you have another problem.

Thanks for the reply. I did manage to swap the o2 sensor and the problem followed that right side o2. I will replace it tomorrow and hopefully everything will be fine. I'm just curious as to why both o2s decided to crap out within one week of each other.

Both of mine went out within 500 miles on the new motor, and they were nearly new before the motor blew. I don't know if it was the coated headers I added or what but mine did the same thing. They have been in for ~7000 miles now and they are fine.

well I replaced the o2 sensor but the new one read exactly what the other one did. What gives? Where else should I look?
