Different wire styles will have different ohm ratings. For example,
the MSD 8.5mm SuperConductor wire will run somewhere between
40-50 ohms per foot.

ss.slp.ls1, I did as you suggested and when I cranked I was able to see about 2.5 volts ac. I could not crank very long because it starts to run right away. I also checked all the ground wires and wires from the battery as suggested and all looks good. As a little more history this all started when the car was driven through a very large rain puddle and the engine sputtered and stalled a little but ran through it and then ran rough for a mile or so. Since then I have been messing with it, and replacing the opti seems to have helped until now. It is btw a brand new OEM unit not a reman.

It shouldn't start with the ICM disconnected.

lol...yeah my mistake, you are right. I was not thinking but I realized it too so I hooked it back up again and cranked longer, the voltage was 2.6V max reading on a digital multimeter so I am not sure how responsive those are.

I am leaning towards getting a odb2-pc connector and running some software to see more details etc. Any thoughts on what to buy/not buy?

Just wanted to throw this in, I had a similar problem, ran two tanks of fuel with injector cleaner and has run smooth ever since. Went through similar problems as yours. Although the water may have gotten in somewhere, electrical can be a pita. Just my 2 cents lol.

Oxygen454, I will do that as soon as its back up and running, although this car was bought new and has always had the premium gas in it from higher end companies, not valero, am/pm etc. Thanks for your input!

I just opened up the butterfly on my TB and looked inside the intake manifold. It's pretty black in there plus the back sides of the butterfly is also black. This car has 140K on it, what is a normal amount of deposit? Could this be part of my problem?

Ok....so I got the autotap...nice piece of equipment! I am still learning to use it but two codes came up right away when I got it running. 161 - H02S Heater Circuit Bank 2 Sensor 2 and 300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire detected. Is there an easy way to check to see if I need to replace the O2 sensor, the vehicle has 132K on it so it could be about time. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Also from idle to 1700 RPM it went from -29 to -45 Ignition Timing Advance. Now having read other threads I realize this is just what the PCM wants or is trying to do but that may not be happening. This is a 96 so there is no way to install the opti incorrectly and the timing chain/etc has never been touched so it should be doing it unless the opti is going bad again?

I think P0336 and P0300 can be caused by a bad opti. If so you would be having backfiring, stumbling, and hesitation.

So I swapped the fuel injector from the #7 to the #1 and the misfire did not follow and is still at the #7 cylinder. Now I presume it could be that the connection is bad but I am starting to think there is nothing wrong with the fuel injector since it does a misfire about every third time. So now on to the spark...I will try to find an old sparkplug wire and swap it out. Any other suggestions anyone? The Ignition Timing Advance is still from -39 to -45 degrees. This is realllllly starting to get frustrating!

how do you know the miss is on seven, you posted the only code was random/multiple.

i would check that wire very good, and maybe try to swap it with another one if possible.

just because the opti is new does not rule it out

My apologies, its the #7 becuase in all my frustration I have decided to spend the money and buy the AutoTap scanner so I am able to see all the parameters. I will try to find some old spark plug wire and see if I can swap it out. The thing that concerns me is the timing advance, it seems really excessive.

Swap the wire with another cylinder, see if the misfire follows.
