Rotor came loose on Accel Opti, need help with install.
97 Camaro Z28, brand new Accel Opti. lI never pulled the cap off to inspect it before hand, but car ran fine for about 2 days before it started missing. It wouldnt run right above an idle. I pulled off the cap and both screws were off inside. I used Loctite and reinstalled the screws, but I noticed the rotor can go on 2 directions. Since the rotor is not symettrical, it has the contact on one side, I dont know if I have it on right, or if it needs to be flipped 180 degrees. Anyone have any help on this? It was already loose when I pulled the cap so there is no way to tell the original position. Also, if I was to have to play trial by error, can I start the car up without the waterpump installed, incase I have to pull the opti and flip the rotor? It would be a lot easier if I only had to install the opti and the crank pulley. Thanks for your input guys.

You could bring the #1 piston to TDC and determine it's orientation that way using shbox.com's timing image: http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#cam_timing
But honestly I would quit while you're ahead and ditch the Accel. It's by FAR the worst and most unreliable opti replacement available. You can loctite those screws all you want but chances are it will fail you again in some other fashion. Don't believe me? Try a search on here (and other sites) and see the reputation it gets. There's a reason it's so inexpensive...
Pick up a new AC Delco opti. There are several sources where they can be had for around ~$350.

I realized that after I bought the unit. Im gonna give the opti one more shot before I throw away 300 bucks. With the timing set to TDC #1 which direction should the rotor be facing?

Thank you, Im upgrading cams soon, prob to the CC503, and Ill go AC Delco while Im back down there. Ive done this so many times, I got the Opti removal down to about 30 min, including draining the radiator.
