roller tip rocker
Re: roller tip rocker
With the LT1 engine, the studs and push rods are "not" the issue. The LT1s require self-aligning (S/A) rockers, or you must add push rod guide plates w/ hardened push rods.
I believe only Crane and GM sell the S/A roller rockers for the LT1s. If you plan to use something other than those, you'll need guide plates and hardened push rods.
I have the Crane 1.6 S/As and they perform very well!
1997 Silver Z/28 LT1-Auto
w/ 30 th Anniversary navy blue stripes
Kooks Long-Tubs w/ Off-Road Y-Pipe
Crane 1.6 Roller Rockers, K&N Air Intake,
Hypertech Performance Program,
Aluminum Driveshaft, Chrome ZR1 wheels
and a few undisclosed upgrades.

Re: roller tip rocker
The non s/a rockers are more stable at high rpm's. They are also quieter (although my GM s/a rockers don't make much noise). But, the engineer is right. You have to use guide plates and hardened pushrods. The guide plates are to guide the pushrods (just as the name inplies). You have to run hardened pushrods because the guide plates will eat them up if you don't. Both are fairly cheap so go with the comp pro mags.

I would, however, recommend you save up a few more bucks and get the full roller Pro Magnums. Most of the benefit of roller rockers is at the fulcrum and not in the tip. Then you can worry about getting SA or NSA rockers.
