Roller Rocker vs Rocker

Well I have reached a point where I have run out of money. I have all of these parts I have put in my car. LT Headers, LT4 springs and hotcam, CAI,
And some little junk here and there. Well my RR's that I bought won't work I guess because they are non self aligning type Aluminum from summit. So My question is will reg rockers work. I can get 1.6 ratio .500 or more lift Rockers from Clevite my cost for like 70 bucks. So I am wondering if those will work for a while until I can afford to put the Roller Rockers in. ?????

Guide plates are only like $20-30 or so for a set, which is less than the $70 you're talking about spending.

Re: Roller Rocker vs Rocker

As long as they made for a self algining SBC your fine.I think from 87 or 88 on up all SBCs used SA stock.

Yeah the only roller rocker that will work with the stock studs are the GMPP 1.6 or Crane Gold Race narrow body 1.5 or 1.6(GMPP are made by Crane just left natural no andodizing). You can use the other self aligin roller rockers but you have to mess with the valve covers to get them to fit.

I just picked up a set of New in the box Crane Gold race 1.5 for another project off of ebay for 150.00 , so good deals are out there.

Guide plates are only like $20-30 or so for a set, which is less than the $70 you're talking about spending.
But he will also need new studs and hardend pushrods so it comes out to a lot more than $70.00

Re: Roller Rocker vs Rocker

I would just get GMPP Guideplates for $20-$30 and some hardened pushrods from Comp for $20-$30. Then you still have good rockers, plus NSA is more stable anyways.

New studs are dependant on what size rockers he got. Many times the Summit is Crane or whatever else.

I think you need to figure out exactly what you have or just return them.

Re: Roller Rocker vs Rocker

Well my RR'S are 3/8 stud as is my stock ones.
My Fbod is a 95 so it already has Hardened Pushrods from the factory. Where do i go about getting the GMPP Guideplates. Scoggin Dickey. Also if I did go with the guideplates. Would I still have to get them plus get the taller valve covers so they can clear the roller rockers? They are pretty tall. Jegs makes those tall polished ones for like 95.00.

Re: Roller Rocker vs Rocker

They will work fine the are no bigger than the factory rocker arms.If it were me and could wait , I would look in the classifeds and ebay for a set of full rollers.Like I said before I scored a set of Crane Gold Race SAs for less than the Comp Cams ones you are looking at and they were new.
