roll cage, when it it time?

what's the rule book say if you go 10's you need a cage? would the extra lbs. hurt times on a 12.xx car but make it up in less chassie flex?

Unless you change the firewall, you need a cage at 9.99. At 12.x, you need no cage or bar, and I suspect the added weight of either will slow you down more than "less chassis flex" will speed you up.

I thought it was 11.999 or better and you needed a rollbar, a cage for 9.999 or better.

If you plan on throwing a lot of power right to the ground, aka 300+ hooking with DRs or slicks, and you plan on keeping the car a while, Id get a cage, with all that power hooking right up the frame will bend slightly. Plus its kind of cool knowing theres like a 75% less chance of dieing in an accident.

I got a quote from a guy that builds race car chassis (tube chassis cars) like 6 and 7 second cars. He also does custom fab stuff for street cars. For a six point chromoly, bent how I want it, installed, not painted, he does all the stripping that he needs to. He quoted me $600. A wolfe cage is like $400 or $450 for a weld in chromoly, then you have to get it installed which around here is about $200, so either way around $600, Id rather have it my way instead of wolfes way.

depends on the track and the car. i know a coupe tends to be 11.99 or 11.49 or faster, or close to it. just check your local tracks rules and they should say what you need, when, and where.

I belive NHRA is 11.99 and IHRA is 11.49...not sure...but along with your cage you'll want a ds loop.

I have a local guy who said he will put in an 8 pt for me, legal and hidden as best possible for $700 cash. He understands I am really into the sleeper look so he said he would do a kick *** job.

I think a DS loop is something anyone with an F-body that is drag racing should look into...

I installed one after I watched a fellow F-body member loose his driveshaft in a violent manor.

The good book says:

hardtops:

11.99 needs a rollbar
9.99 needs a rollcage

ragtops & the like:

13.99 needs a rollbar

The install is most likely going to be around $500 for quality work. The bar itself is the inexpensive part.

11.99 NHRA
11.49 IHRA

Get a good one. I have a six point wolfe bar, welded. It adds stiffness and looks good. It is your life you are playing with so do it right.

A driveshaft loop is also needed, and you may as well get a 5-point harness as long as you are doing a cage or a bar. 5-points expire every two years at both IHRA and NHRA so don't buy a used one. This is money well spend. A flat tire or a dragster coming up your butt can hurt at the top end.
